Note the controversy about this birth-time, which was published on the Internet. It was later claimed that the image had been tampered with. It has also been reported that his Kenyan grandmother insists he was born there. (Article written in 2008).

For our purposes here, however, precision of time is not essential, as the theme which stands out immediately is the Leo/Aquarius polarity, expressed in the zodiac placement of four planets, plus the Nodal Axis. Indeed, the multiple conjunctions of 2009 directly activated the South Node. If this birth-time time is correct, he also has the sign of Aquarius rising. The dual rulers of Sun (Leo) and Saturn (Aquarius) are the dispositors of every planet in the horoscope, and so his chart provides a clear example of a 'Man of Destiny'. However, Saturn in the 12th house of 'hidden influences' puts us on notice to stay aware that 'things are not as they seem'.

The South Node shows 'what we bring with us', and here it also relates to the collective and historical roots of the issues he is standing for in the 'folk imagination' of the people. He has also 'inherited' some urgent and extremely contentious issues from his predecessor George Bush. Mars in the 8th house here is a shared entanglement in 'other people's conflicts'. Obama came to power surfing a wave of 'people power' (Aquarius) and his personal qualities and charisma (Leo) were initially the focus of huge attention, positive and negative. Obama has the Sun, Mercury, Uranus and the North Node all in Leo, and indeed the sense of him being a 'solar hero', a man of his times (Aquarius rising), a redeemer (Neptune in the 9th, trine Venus and Chiron), has been clearly expressed in the larger-than-average voter turnout which won him the election. His campaign slogan 'Yes, we can' is neatly reflected in the fact that all the conjunctions in Aquarius (listed in the main article) fall opposite his Uranus in the 7th house. 'We are the ones ......' is a very Aquarian refrain, as is the extremely high level of expectation being placed upon him, from people in many countries all round the world.

The 7th house is the house of 'others', and Uranus in Leo can indicate a particularly stubborn kind of wilfulness and personal righteousness, and one can imagine here that Obama will be in a position of needing to relate to people who are not only in positions of person power (Leo), but who are intransigent with it (Uranus in Leo). Indeed, one year on, Obama can be seen to have demonstrated just that himself. At the same time, his own capacity to be unflinching, stalwart and uncompromising will be called upon. As the current Aquarius stellium occupies the 1st house of Obama's horoscope, it reflects him as the 'voice of the people', and in that sense, a 'Man of the Times', the focal point (his Uranus in Leo) of collective change.

Obama began his term of office January 20th, 2009, within a couple of weeks of his Jupiter Return. His Jupiter, in Aquarius in the 12th house, is powerfully placed, in its sign of esoteric rulership. This placement drives an individual to synthesize different cultures, impressions, religious views and philosophies; this theme has already been part of Obama's life experience, and as a man of mixed racial origins, he embodies it. With a father from Kenya, a mother with Irish roots, schooling in Indonesia and a Harvard education, he has material enough to allow almost anyone to identify with him - the Outsider who rises to supreme power. This is his collective 'calling card', his public face. As always, in history, it is the enduring legacy which someone leaves behind after their term of office which reveals how they will be remembered. After all, many people in Zimbabwe were ecstatically happy with the election of Robert Mugabe as the President. Twenty years on, it is clear that he has reduced the country to a wasteland.

With the Moon of the horoscope of the USA in late Aquarius, this Leo/Aquarius polarity, so prominent in Obama's astrology, we will see initial events unfolding according to the transits to Obama's chart, being as he is 'The Man of the Moment'. Obama had his Nodal Return in February 2008, and will have the transiting squares in October 2012. A Nodal Return is a powerful time of reorientation, when our allotted task may come to use with great force. We may align with more depth and clarity to life is asking of us. It is a time of new beginnings, and the squares bring a crisis of reassessment. Eclipses are always located along the axis in the zodiac where the Nodes are placed. As Obama has a large number of planets in this zone, including his own Nodal Axis, this tells us that the eclipses and some lunations will also be important.

By the time Neptune moves into Pisces, from April 2011, Obama will be approaching his Chiron Return, which will occur a total of 5 times in 2011 and 2012, the year of his next election - or not. The 'Chiron Return is a 'time of destiny', for we undergo a particular rite of passage at this time, which is an opportunity to heal the past. It will be interesting to see how Obama carries this. Will he bring healing? If so, in what way? Or will he be, unwittingly or otherwise, an agent of wounding?

Remember that whenever Neptune is involved,

things may not be as they seem.

Although Obama won the election, and has become the repository of HOPE for many people, we should not be blind to the fact that he could not have risen to such prominence without the support of 'The System', which is embedded in a network of partisan concerns and conflicting interests, and which therefore cannot support the hopes and dreams of 'We The People ..... ' Indeed with these events occuring under the the triple conjunction of Chiron, Jupiter and Neptune, we are to undergo a healing review of our unconscious hopes and dreams, for these collective thought forms which prey upon our energy lead us always down blind alleys. They also create a vulnerability to being manipulated by mis-information put about by various vested interests, including ' The State'.

'We The People' have many opportunities to say 'No', and many situations may arise that require us so to do.
